RESOLUTION NO. 13251
WHEREAS, the Florida Sports Meet, Inc. is sponsoring and
conducting the World Cup Gymnastics Championships Tournament in
the City of Miami Beach Convention Hall on June 5, 1971, and
WHEREAS, said Tournament will be nationally, and possibly
internationally, televised by the American Broadcasting Corporation
in its feature program entitled "The Wide World of Sports"
commencing at 5: 00 to 6:30 P.M. on said date, and
WHEREAS, Davis L. Statton, as the authorized representative of
the Florida Sports Meet, Inc. , has extended an invitation to The
Peoples Republic of China to participate in said Championships
Tournament, and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is the Host City for said
Championships Tournament,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Council, for and on
behalf of itself and of the citizens and residents of the City of
Miami Beach, do hereby warmly concur and join in the extension of
such invitation to the athletes of The Peoples Republic of China
as a contribution of the City of Miami Beach to the cause of
cordial international relations and friendship between the United
States of America and The Peoples Republic of China and their people,
and that the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, for itself and
for the citizens and residents of said City, do hereby commit
themselves to extend warm and enthusiastic hospitality, not only to
each and every representative of each country participating in said
Tournament, but particularly to the representative athletes of The
Peoples Republic of China, and to all of its people, and do hereby
express their most sincere assurance that no effort will be spared
by the City of Miami Beach and its citizens to make the stay of
the representatives of all nations, particularly The Peoples
Republic of China, a durable and significant contribution to the
cause of international friendship and cordial good will.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH,. FLORIDA, that copies of this Resolution be transmitted
to the Honorable Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States,
the Honorable William Rogers, Secretary of State, and the Honorable
Frank Bare, Executive Director of the United States Gymnastics
Federation, and through appropriate channels to the authorized
Chiefs of State of The Peoples Republic of China.
The adoption of the above and foregoing Resolution was a
unanimous action of City Council.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 21st day of April, 1971.
