13377 RESOLUTION NO. 13377
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that Southern
Bell Telephone Company has evolved and developed, through
appropriate research, a hearing device adapted for installation
on residential telephones which enables persons afflicted with
hearing difficulties to alleviate or to eliminate completely
their difficulties of hearing, and thereby enable them to
derive the fullest possible benefit from telephone service, and
WHEREAS, Southern Bell Telephone Company has
regrettably failed to adequately publicize the development,
evolvement, and availability of this device for the hard of
hearing, and
WHEREAS, Southern Bell Telephone Company has fixed
a connection charge of Seven ($7. 00) Dollars to those persons
who have become informed and advised of the availability of said
service, and has also fixed a charge of Fifty Cents (50w) per
month for the use of said device, and
WHEREAS, Southern Bell Telephone Company can perform
an immeasurable service and contribution to the benefit of the
community by making this service and device available to all
who may make use of the same;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that Southern Bell
Telephone Company be, and it is hereby urgently requested to
publicize the development and availability of this telephone
service to those persons handicapped by hearing difficulties,
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH. FLORIDA, that Southern Bell Telephone
Company be, and it is hereby urgently requested to eliminate
the said Seven ($7. 00) Dollar connection charge so as to make
the said device available for all persons in need of the same,
and that said Southern Bell Telephone Company be, and is further
urgently requested to eliminate the monthly charge for said
service, all as a further and additional contribution by
Southern Bell Telephone Company to its community of users and
customers, and as a further contribution toward good will
between said Company and the community.
