Granado, City Clerk DATE: June 28, 2017 SUBJECT: DEADLINES TO PLACE ITEMS ON THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH NOVEMBER 7, 2017 SPECIAL ELECTION; THE COUNTYWIDE AUGUST 28, 2018 PRIMARY ELECTION; AND THE COUNTYWIDE NOVEMBER 6, 2018 GENERAL ELECTION BALLOTS. In order for the City Commission to present ballot measures to City voters, a Special Election must be scheduled via the Commission's adoption of a City Resolution. 2017 Set forth below are the relevant deadlines by which the City would be required to submit its Resolution(s) to the County calling for a Special Election to be held on November 7, 2017. 2017 MIAMI BEACH MUNICIPAL ELECTION SCHEDULE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT CITY RESOLUTION(S) TO COUNTY ELECTIONS SUPERVISOR RE: CITY CHARTER DEADLINE TO SUBMIT CITY RESOLUTION(S) TO COUNTY ELECTIONS SUPERVISOR RE: OTHER MEASURES AMENDMENTS (NON -CHARTER) GENERAL/SPECIAL ELECTION November 7, 2017 No earlier than Monday, July 10, 2017 No later than Friday, September 8, 2017 No later than Wednesday, September 13, 2017 2018 Should the City of Miami Beach wish to conduct a Special Election along with the 2018 Countywide August 28, 2018 Primary and/or the November 6, 2018 General Elections, the submittal deadlines listed below must be followed, to allow sufficient time for ballot preparation and to meet State -mandated deadlines to mail vote -by -mail ballots to overseas voters. 2018 COUNTYWIDE ELECTION SCHEDULE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT CITY RESOLUTION(S) TO COUNTY ELECTIONS SUPERVISOR RE: CITY CHARTER DEADLINE TO SUBMIT CITY RESOLUTION(S) TO COUNTY ELECTIONS SUPERVISOR RE: OTHER MEASURES AMENDMENTS (NON -CHARTER) PRIMARY ELECTION August 28, 2018 No earlier than Monday, April 30, 2018 No later than Friday, June 8, 2018 No later than Friday, June 8, 2018 GENERAL ELECTION November 6, 2018 No earlier than Monday, July 9, 2018 No later than Tuesday, August 7, 2018 No later than Tuesday, August 7, 2018 Note that pursuant to Florida Statutes Section 100.151, "...the governing authority of a municipality shall not call any Special Election until notice is given to the Supervisor of Elections and her consent obtained as to a date..." Once approval is obtained from the Supervisor of Elections, the resolution to call a Special Election must be passed to meet the submittal deadlines listed above.
