ANALYSIS Pursuant to Section 2.04 of the Miami Beach City Charter, "The City Commission shall meet at such times as may be prescribed by ordinance or resolution." In preparing the recommended meeting dates, the Administration set three (3) goals: 1) schedule Commission meetings on a three (3) week cycle; 2) schedule Commission meetings on Wednesdays; and 3) not to schedule Commission meetings during the month of August, while the City Commission is in recess. The Administration met the goals with the following exceptions: Exception: The March 20th meeting is scheduled four (4) weeks after the previously scheduled meeting, instead of three (3) weeks, because some elected officials plan to attend the opening reception of Miami Modern Architecture or MiMo being held in New York. Exception: The July 10th meeting is scheduled four (4) weeks after the previously scheduled meeting, instead of three (3) weeks, due to the Fourth of July holiday. Exception: In the month of September there are two (2) scheduled meetings. The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11, and two (2) weeks later a second meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25. The meetings in September are used for approval of the City's budget and other related City business. AGENDA ITEM DATE f?7D //-~8'-o( Exception: The October 23rd meeting is scheduled four (4) weeks after the previously scheduled meeting, instead of three (3) weeks, because the City Manager is scheduled to be out of town on City business. Exception: The December 11 meeting is scheduled four (4) weeks after the previously scheduled meeting, because of Hanukkah. It is recommended that the City Commission meetings be set as follows: . Wednesday, January 9 and Wednesday, January 30 . Wednesday, February 20* . Wednesday, March 20 . Wednesday, April 10 . Wednesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 22 . Wednesday, June 12 . Wednesday, July 10 and Wednesday, July 31 . August, City Commission is in recess . Wednesday, September 11 and Wednesday, September 25 . Wednesday, October 23 . Wednesday, November 13 . Wednesday, December 11 There are 15 Commission meetings scheduled for 2002 compared to 18 meetings in 2001. Two of the 18 meetings in 2001 were strictly election related. The Commission meeting Calendar does not preclude the scheduling of Special Commission meetings. In preparing the calendar, City-designated holidays and religious holidays have been taken into consideration. Attachment "A" is a list of City of Miami Beach holidays. Attachment "B" is a list of Jewish holidays. The Administration recommends that the Mayor and City Commission approve the proposed City Commission meeting dates for the year 2002. *The Boat Show is scheduled for February 13-18 with move-out scheduled to begin on the 19th.
