A RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION AND APPRECIATION
TO THE NOR-ISLE OPTIMIST CLUB FROM THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the NOR-ISLE OPTIMIST CLUB of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, has originated, encouraged and sponsored over a
period of many years a comprehensive athletic and football program
for the youth of the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the high attainments and achievements made by
the members and officers of the said NOR-ISLE OPTIMIST CLUB are
attributable solely to their individual and group sacrifices of
time, energy and finance; and
WHEREAS , by their said individual and group efforts they
have succeeded, in superlative degree, in molding high character
and inculcating in our youth, the highest ideals and principles
of American democracy and citizenship; and
WHEREAS, the said efforts of the individual members and
officers of the said NOR-ISLE OPTIMIST CLUB, including only by
way of example, SEYMOUR GLADSTONE, PERRY FABIAN, BURTON BLACK and
JOSEPH LEIFER, have made said athletic and football program a
model and prototype for similar programs throughout the nation;
and
WHEREAS, said athletic and football program has culminated
in a football classic known as the COCONUT BOWL which has become
known throughout the nation, redounding not only to the benefit of
our youth, but also, as an incident, has brought national publicity
to the City of Miami Beach,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it, and each and every member
thereof does hereby formally express for itself, and for and on
behalf of all of the citizens and residents of the City of Miami
Beach, their individual and collective appreciation to the members
and officers of the NOR-ISLE OPTIMIST CLUB, for their exemplary
efforts and success in the premises, and they further extend to
the said members and officers their pledge of continuing assistance
and cooperation in further advancing and encouraging the success of
the said athletic and football programs of said NOR-ISLE OPTIMIST
CLUB in the years to come, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a suitably engraved facsimile or replica
of this Resolution of appreciation, be presented to the said member-
ship and officers of the said NOR-ISLE OPTIMIST CLUB.
