RESOLUTION NO. 73-14006
WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of
the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that
the residents of this City, as well as those in the entire
South Florida area are being subjected to arbitrary and
unfair discrimination in the matter of air travel excursion
fares from Miami to New York, and that such discrimination
operates in favor of travelers from New York to Miami in
that the latter are permitted to travel on an excursion
rate of $127. to $137. , while residents of this area are
required to pay a fare of $170. for travel from Miami to
New York, and
WHEREAS , such discrimination against local resi-
dents traveling from Miami to New York is patently unreason-
able, inequitable and unfair, and cannot be justified on
any logical basis, and
WHEREAS, the three major airlines serving said
travel market are undoubtedly unaware of the considerable
adverse public relations engendered by such discrimination,
and
WHEREAS, it would be manifestly beneficial to the
said airlines to cease exercising such discrimination against
local residents traveling from Miami to New York,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it deplores
the existence of such inequitable and arbitrary discrimina-
tion, with its concomitant adverse public reaction, and
that it is of the belief that if this inequity is brought
to the attention of the said airlines that they will take
prompt and immediate action to eliminate the same forthwith
by instituting appropriate proceedings before the Civil
Aeronautics Board authorizing them to establish excursion
rates from Miami to New York at the same reduced rates
applicable to excursion travel from New York to Miami, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the said airlines be and
they are hereby requested to act in accordance with this
Resolution with all reasonable speed and dispatch, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that copies of this Resolution
be transmitted to each of the three major airlines serving
said market; i.e. , National, Eastern, Delta, and that copies
hereof also be transmitted to the Civil Aeronautics Board,
to the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and Miami - Dade
County Chamber of Commerce for appropriate action in accor-
dance herewith.
