'" Mr. Brad Judd, Director of the City's Property Management Division and Captain Vincent Andreano recently visited the storage site to inspect the structures. Based on this inspection it was their recommendation that, with modifications, the kiosk structure could be functional as a lifeguard stand. However, the other structure, even with substantial modifications, would not function as lifeguard stands. This was due primarily to the size and configuration. We will recommend the acceptance of the kiosk structure to the City Commission on April 28, 1999. Please advise if the Delano will also donate the services necessary to relocate the structure to the Property Management Division yard. Again, thank you for the generous offer and we look forward to your response. rgio Rodriguez City Manager s~:Ks:eb c: Mayor ~eisen O. Kasdin and Members of the City mmission DATE: April 28, 1999 FROM: Sergio Rodriguez City Manager SUBJECT: A RESOLU 0 OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A DONATION FROM THE DELANO HOTEL OF A WOODEN KIOSK, TO BE MODIFIED AND USED BY THE CITY AS A PUBLIC LIFEGUARD STAND; SAID DONATION'S ESTIMATED VALUE BY THE CITY IS $5,000. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the Resolution. BACKGROUND: On March 12. 1999, the Delano Hotel sent correspondence to the City offering to donate two wooden beach structures to the City for use as a public lifeguard stand. An inspection of the structures by the Director of Property Management and the Captain of Beach Patrol respectively, resulted in the recommendation that one of the structures, a wooden kiosk, with modifications could function as a public lifeguard stand. The other structure would not function well as a lifeguard stand, primarily due to its size and configuration. ANALYSIS: This donation will enhance the City's ability to protect visitors and residents using the beach by providing a new stand for City lifeguards. The City currently expends approximately $12,000 to construct each uniquely designed lifeguard stand. The value of this donation is estimated by the City to be approximately $5,000. CONCLUSION: Approve the attached Resolution. S+S/lrd~1j,> T:\AGENDA \ 1999\APR2899\CONSENT\DELANODO.MEM AGENDA ITEM ~.~c; DATE~4 \
