82-17156 RESOLUTION NO. 82-17156 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PETITIONING FLORIDA GOVERNOR ROBERT GRAHAM TO APPOINT SOUTH FLORIDA RESIDENTS TO THE FLORIDA PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION. WHEREAS , the terms of two (2) members of the Florida Public Service Commission expire at the close of this year, and since the Governor has the power to appoint commissioners for this new term, and WHEREAS , there are no members of the Public Service Commission from South Florida presently on the Commission, despite the fact that South Florida has almost fifty percent (50%) of the State ' s population, and WHEREAS, there is at present a need for members on the Commission who are consumer protection oriented and that this Commission has the power to set rates covering over $11 billion annually of the consumers ' money which makes it the most important body for consumer affairs in Florida, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, THAT THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH URGES THAT THE TWO NEW MEMBERS TO BE APPOINTED TO THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION BOTH BE RESIDENTS OF SOUTH FLORIDA AND FURTHER THAT THEY HAVE A RECORD OF CONSUMER-PROTEC- TION ORIENTED ACTIVITIES IN FLORIDA. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Mayor and Commission of Dade County and the other municipalities of Dade County.
