Parkins City Manager SUBJECT: RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM THE STATE OF FLORIDA, DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES FOR THE RETARDATION PROGRAM AND AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF THREE CONTRACTS TO PROVIDE SERVICES. The attached Resolution requests Commission approval to execute 3 contracts that have been offered by the State of Florida, Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, for the provision of continued funding of Miami Beach Activity Center for Retarded Adults. The contracts being submitted for approval cover a 3 month period (October 1, 1982 through December 31, 1982) rather than the usual 12 month period. This change is based on the appeals of many programs in reference to the amount of money offered them for fiscal year 82-83. As a result of these appeals, the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services has offered all programs 3 month contracts at the same monetary rate as fiscal year 81-82, during which time the appeals are to be heard and decisions rendered. It is anticipated that all appeals will be settled in time for new contracts, covering the period of January 1, 1982, through September 30, 1983 to be submitted for Commission approval. Miami Beach Activity Center serves 40 retarded adults at the Log Cabin at 8128 Collins Avenue, 35 of whom are funded through the HRS grant. ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: The Administration recommends approval of this resolution. This is an on-going pro- gram and its continuity is vital to meeting the needs of the retarded adult clients in the program. RWP/GAK/nkm AGENDA ITEM DATE
