83-17300 RESOLUTION NO. 83-17300 A Resolution of the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida expressing its • appreciation to the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana for the good will and fellowship gener- ated by Miami's Calle Ocho, and WHEREAS: • More than 600,000 sang and danced their way through Little Havana, U.S.A. during the 6th annual Calle Ocho Open House, a 15 block extravaganza of music, food and art attracting international interest and attention, and WHEREAS: Calle Ocho and Miami's Carnival '83 rivals New Orleans' Mardi Gras and is the highlight of 10 days of festive activities, and WHEREAS: More than 40 bands, 300 exhibits, dancing and fireworks were displayed in a heart-warming demonstration of people and performers merg- ing in a Latin atmosphere of fun and frolic, and WHEREAS: The community was moved to celebrate Carni- val Night, a 12-hour festival of song and dance in the Orange Bowl featuring floats, food, folkloric dance, mirth and good will • NOW, THEREFORE, be it duly resolved by the City Commission of the City of Miami Beach, Florida that the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana be and the same is hereby acknowledged and commended for the goodwill and fellowship generated by Miami's Calle Ocho.
