A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ENTER
INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY
TO HAVE ITS CONTRACTOR ASPHALT A PORTION OF THE
AREA ON 17th STREET FROM JACKIE GLEASON DRIVE
TO MERIDIAN COURT IN THE AMOUNT OF $13 , 000 .
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has a credit from
a bonding company in the amount of $13,000 to pay for the
asphalting of an area on 17th Street; and
WHEREAS, the County presently has a contractor
working on asphalting 17th Street; and
WHEREAS, the City is in a position to contract
with Metro to do the portion of the work that is involved in
the credit and would be 75% funded by EPA under the City' s
existing grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH authorizes the City to
enter into an agreement with Metropolitan Dade County to
have its contractor asphalt a portion of the area on 17th
Street from Jackie Gleason Drive to Meridian Court in the
amount of $13 , 000.

SUBJECT: AGREEMENT ' I METROPOLITAN DADE COUNTY TO ASPHALT A
PORTION OF 17TH STREET
The contractor, C. F. Smith, had Contract No. 3 for the installation of
sanitary sewer facilities to transmit sewage to Virginia Key. Part of
Contract 3 required the installation of a 24-inch force main on 17th Street
from Jackie Gleason Drive to Meridian Court. The contractor completed
the installation; however, the pavement restoration was never accepted and
in the interim C. F. Smith went into bankruptcy and the bonding company,
Travellers Insurance Company, took over their obligations.
The bonding company, in settling with the City of Miami Beach regarding
this matter, offered a $13,000 credit towards the restoration of the
pavement which was accepted by the City and the EPA, who would be
picking up 75% of the cost.
Since the County is reconstructing and asphalting 17th Street under the
Decade of Progress bonds, the City is in a position to have Metro, through
its contractor, do the portion of work that is involved in the credit and
would be 75% funded by EPA under the City's existing grant. This will then
enable Metro to asphalt another area equivalent to the same funding within
the City of Miami Beach.
FUNDING
Funds for this purpose in the amount of $13,000 are available in Work Order
No. 2603 which was appropriated from the $10.5 Million bond issue for
transmission of sewage to Virginia Key.
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION

The Administration recommends that the Commission authorize the entering

similar_amount-forasphalting within the City of_Miami Beach.
