FROM: Rob W. Par ins I /. City Manage , . SUBJECT: RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING CONSENT TO DESIGNATION OF THE 21ST STREET COMMUNITY CENTER AS AN HISTORIC SITE The Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board has submitted a request (see Exhibit 'A') to the City of Miami Beach that it consent to the designation of the Old City Hall Site and the 21st Street Community Center Site (including the interior of the Clubhouse), as historic sites. At its March 16, 1983 meeting, the City Commission adopted a resolution consenting to the designation of Old City Hall but withheld consent with regards to the 21st Street Community Center to allow the administration time to investigate the impact of designation on the limited amount of CD funds available for the rehabilitation of the buildings. In a meeting with the architect who has completed the plans for the rehabilitation project, the administration has been assured that designation will in no way increase the cost of the project. The plans, as completed, meet all standards established by the Secretary of the Interior for Rehabilitation of Historic Structures and has been approved by the Secretary of State of the State of Florida (see Exhibit 'B"). ADMINISTRATIVE RECOMMENDATION The Administration recommends that the City Commission adopt the attached resolution consenting to the designation of the 21st Street Community Center as a local historic site.
