A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH LENDING FULL SUPPORT TO
REQUEST FOR RESTORATION OF FUNDS TO THE 1983-84
STATE BUDGET FOR DADE COUNTY'S BEACH EROSION
PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Dade County Beach Erosion Program is
important to the protection, economy and recreational viability of
Dade County and Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, in August, 1982, Dade County submitted to the
Florida Department of Natural Resources funding requests for Dade
County' s Beach Erosion Program; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Natural Resources
(DNR) reviewed these requests and recommended that three projects
be fully funded in the biennial budget year 1983-85; and
WHEREAS, these projects were included in the County' s
legislative priorities for fiscal year 1983-84; and
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has planned to proceed
with the Dade County Renourishment Program in fiscal year 1983-84;
and
WHEREAS, the Dade County Renourishment Program and the
Dade County Vegetation Project would suffer from the lack of State
funds; and
WHEREAS, the Governor ' s proposed State budget for fiscal
year 1983-84 does not include any funds for said beach erosion
projects;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH:
1. That the City Commission lends its full support to
the Dade County Delegation' s efforts to restore funds to the 1983-
84 State Budget for Dade County' s Beach Erosion Program; and
2. That the City Commission hereby requests other
municipalities along the Atlantic Ocean in Dade County to urge
their appropriate legislators to include funds for beach
restoration in Dade County, Florida.
