83-17355 RESOLUTION NO. 83-17355 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE U.S. CONFERENCE OF • MAYORS TO CONTINUE ITS EFFORTS TO SUPPORT AND PROMOTE FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID FOR LOCAL REFUGEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS AND A NATIONAL REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT PROGRAM WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, Florida has been severly impacted by the influx of Cuban entrants since 1980 in the areas of public assistance, housing, employment, and public safety; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, Florida has expended a disproportionate share of limited available local funds for the purpose of providing services to said entrant; and WHEREAS, any additional cutbacks in federal funds for refugee/entrant assistance and/or relocation further negatively impact the City of Miami Beach, Florida; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the U.S. Conference of Mayors is urged to continue its efforts to support and promote federal financial aid for local refugee assistance programs and a national refugee resettlement program, in order to alleviate the disproportionate burden which has been placed upon the City of Miami Beach and similar communities.
