Ordinance 558 .000 ' y ORDINANCE NO. 558 AN ORDINANCE ASSESSING AND IMPOSING ON EVERY INSURANCE COMPANY, CORPORATION OR OTHER INSUROR NOW ENGAGED IN OR CARRYING ON, OR WHO SHALL HEREAFTER ENGAGE IN OR CARRY ON, THE BUSINESS OF INSURING PROP- ERTY AGAINST LOSS OR DAMAGE BY FIRE OR TORNADO, AN EXCISE TAX IN ADDITION TO ANY LICENSE OR EXCISE TAX NOW LEVIED, AMOUNT- ING TO ONE (1%) PER CENT OF THE GROSS AMOUNT OF RECEIPTS OF PREMIUMS FROM POLICY HOLDERS ON ALL PREMIUMS COLLECTED ON FIRE AND TORNADO INSURANCE POLICIES COVERING PROPERTY WITHIN THE CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AND AP- PROPRIATING THE MONEYS DERIVED FROM SUCH TAX TO THE FIREMEN'S RELIEF AND PENSION FUND. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH , FLORIDA: SECTION 1: There is hereby assessed and imposed on every insurance company, corporation or other insurer now engaged in or carrying on, or who shall hereafter engage in or carry on, the bus- iness of insuring property against loss or damage by fire or tornado, an excise or license tax amounting to one (1%) per cent of the gross amount of receipts of premiums from policy holders on all premiums colleted on fire and tornado insurance policies covering property within the corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach, Florida. SECTION 2: All money derived from the taxes imposed by this ordinance is hereby appropriated to the Firemen' s Relief and Pension Fund of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, which shall be administered in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 19,112 , Laws of Florida, Acts of 1939, providing for the Creation and Administration of a Firemen' s Relief and Pension Fund in certain Cities and Towns. SECTION 3: The license tax herein assessed and imposed shall be in addition to all other license taxes now levied by the City of Miami Beach, Florida. SECTION 4: The excise or license tax herein provided for shall be payable and collected in the manner provided for by Chapter 19,112, Laws of Florida, Acts of 1939, providing for the Creation and Administration of A Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund in certain Cities and Towns. SECTION 5. This adinance shall become effective August 1st, A. D. , 1939. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 7th day of August, A. D. , 1939, and that said ordinance remained posted for a period of at least thirty days in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter of the said City of Miami Beach.
