ORDINANCE NO, 639
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
FIXING THE TIME FOR COMPLETION OF THE ASSESSMENT
ROLL; PROVIDING FOR A MEETING FOR THE PURPOSE OF
HEARING COMPLAINTS AS TO THE VALUE OF PROPERTY AS
FIXED BY THE TAX ASSESSOR AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF
REVIEWING AND EQUALIZING THE ASSESSMENT; PROVIDING
FOR NOTICE OF SUCH MEETING AND THE PURPOSE THEREOF;
PROVIDING FOR AN EXTENSION OF TIME FOR COMPLETION
OF THE ASSESSMENT AND FOR THE PURPOSE OF REVIEWING
AND EQUALIZING THE ASSESSMENT; PROVIDING FOR A
MEETING FOR THE PURPOSE OF HEARING COMPLAINTS IN
CONNECTION WITH THE VALUATION OF PROPERTY AS FIXED
BY THE ASSESSOR OR CHANGED BY THE CITY COUNCIL.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the City Tax Assessor of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, shall complete the assessment rolls of the City
of Miami Beach on or before the first 44onday in June of each year.
SECTION 2: That on the first Monday in June of every year, the \
said Tax Assessor shall meet -with the City Council in
the Council Chambers at the City Hall, Miami Beach, Florida, for
the purpose of hearing complaints and receiving testimony as to the
value of any property, real or personal, as fixed by the City Tax
Assessor and for the purpose of perfecting, reviewing and equalizing
the assessment, and may continue in session for that purpose from
day to day for one week, or as long as shall be necessary.
SECTION 3: Due notice of such meeting shall be given by publication
in a newspaper published in the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, at least fifteen (15) days before the City Council will be
in session for the purpose of hearing complaints and receiving testimony
as to the value of any property as fixed and assessed by the City Tax
Assessor,
SECTION 4: That the City Council of the City of Miami Beach may, if
they deem it necessary, extend the time for the completion
of such assessment roll and for the purpose of reviewing and equalizing
the assessment a similar extension not exceeding thirty (30) days,
give due notice and an opportunity to be heard as to assessments and
values as hereinabove provided.
SECTION 5: Should the City Council increase the value fixed by the
City Tax Assessor of any real or personal property, due
notice thereof shall be given to the owner or agent of such property
by publication in a newspaper published in the City_„ of Miami Beach,
Florida, to hear any reason that such persons may desire, to give
why the valuation fixed by the City Council shall be changed.
SECTION 6: The City Council shall meet on the first Monday in July
of each year for the purpose of hearing comaints from
owners or agents of any real estate or personal property, the valuation
of which has been fixed by the City Tax Assessor or changed by them,
and for that purpose the City Council shall sit as long as it may be
necessary, provided, however, that if the time for the completion of
the assessment roll and for the purpose of reviewing and equalizing the
assessment isextended, as provided in Section Four (4) hereof, then •
the City Council shall meet on the first Monday in August for the pur-
pose of hearing complaints as aforesaid,
SECTION 7: All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed*
SECTION 8: This ordinance shall go into effect immediately upon its
becoming a law.

PURPOSE OF REVIEWING AND EQUALIZING THE ASSESSMENT; PROVIDING FOR

BY THE CITY COUNCIL, " having been passed and adopted by the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by
me in three conspicuous places in the City of Miami Beach, one of
which was at the door of the City Hall in said City, on the 5th
day of February, A. D. , 1942, and that said Ordinance remained
posted for a period of at least thirty days in accordance with the
requirements of the City Charter of the said City of Miami Beach.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand
and affixed the official seal of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
on this the 17th day of March, A. D., 1942.
