LTC 440-2017 Muss Park Improvement Projects StatusllAlt BEAH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER No. Tc# 440-2017 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Philip Levine and Members of the City Co mission FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager DATE: AuguSt 22, 2017 I SUBECT: MUSS PARK IMPROVEMENT PR ECTS STATUS The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to update the Commission on the status of the three improvement projects currently under construction at Muss Park. Construction of the new pavilion began on January 31, 2017. Due to a very aggressive schedule and delays encountered by the contractor, West Construction, this portion of the project is behind schedule. In an effort to make up the lost time, the contractor has worked extended hours, as well as every available Saturday. Despite best efforts, the contractor has been unable to get back on schedule, and is now projecting substantial completion of the Pavilion Project to occur in October. A separate contract was awarded to Topline, Inc. for the installation of playgrounds, safety surFace and canopies. Topline is expected to complete their installation concurrently with the pavilion. In addition to the pavilion and playground projects, Kiewit Infrastructure, the contractor for the seawall replacement project, is currently ahead of schedule and is also expected to complete their work by October. The Parks and Recreation Department began priority registration for the 2017-2018 After School program on July 24, 2017. Staff has been advising program participants enrolling at the Scott Rakow Youth Center for grades kindergarten through third that upon the opening of Muss Park, that particular age group will be transferred to Muss Park to attend the After School program at that site. Once completed, the park will benefit from a complete renovation which will include the 4,000 square foot pavilion, playgrounds, landscaping, refreshed lawn area and the City's first new hybrid seawall, incorporating a structural seawall and a living shoreline.
