LTC 441-2017 Status and Soft Opening of the South Pointe Park Wan A + , t. '' -- City of Miami Beath, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov I, fiC 441-2017 LETTER TO COMMISSION To: Mayor Philip Levine and Members o the City mmission From: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager 1 Date: August 22, 2017 ) Subject: Status and Soft Opening of the S uth Pointe Park Water Feature The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to notify the City Commission that the South Pointe Park Water Feature Remediation Project, after many delays and complications, is finally substantially complete and ready for the enjoyment of the public. A soft opening is anticipated as early as this week. The project is located at South Pointe Park, at the south end of Washington Avenue. The former interactive water features have been replaced with passive, non-interactive and illuminated water features/fountains and water misters. In addition, the project has added new landscaping, coral stone benches, and pathway lighting. The temporary construction fence will be removed and this section of the park will now be open for pedestrian access and use. The new water features provide a clean and simple character highlighted by surfaces and vanishing edges (similar to an infinity pool) that are highly reflective and complement the surrounding environment. Construction began in January of 2016. Although the project was intended to be completed in the fall of 2016, complications encountered by the city's contractor resulted in significant delays. During the next month you will continue to see contractor presence, performing final "punch-list" work in order to complete the pending minor items and achieve final completion. The administration is currently working on scheduling a date for the ribbon cutting ceremony and the dedication of the water feature to former Deputy Police Chief, Mark N. Overton.
