Ordinance 1193 ORDINANCE NO. 1193
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 13
OF "THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, 1950" .
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1 : That Chapter 13 of "The Code of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, 1950" be and the same is hereby
amended by adding thereto immediately after Section 13.35 thereof
an additional section to read as follows :
"SECTION 13.35.1 . It is unlawful for the owner, operator or
person in charge of any ambulance to transport,
or offer to transport, a patient in any ambulance which previously
has transported a person having or believed to have any of the
following diseases :
Poliomyelitis
Cerebro-spinal fever
Scarlet fever
Diphtheria
Leprosy
Measles
Plague
Small pox
Mumps
Cholera
unless the said ambulance has been disinfected thoroughly after
the transportation of the person so diseased or believed to be so
diseased. Such disinfection shall be accomplished either by (a)
burning a formaldehyde candle within the sealed ambulance for a
minimum of three hours, or by (b) the scrubbing of the interior
of the ambulance with a one per cent (1%) Phenol Solution and
sealing the ambulance for a minimum of six hours thereafter. In
all cases all linens, pillows and blankets shall be changed.
Such owner, operator or person in charge shall commence such
disinfection within thirty minutes after the ambulance has returned
to its place of dispatch and shall submit a report of such dis-
infection within twenty-four hours to the health officer."
SECTION 2: Any person convicted of a violation of the provisions
of this ordinance shall upon conviction thereof be
punished as provided in Section 1 .8 of this Code .
SECTION 3: That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in
conflict herewith be and the same are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4: That this ordinance shall go into effect immediately
upon its passage and posting as required by law .

having been passed and adopted by the City Council of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, has been posted by me in three conspicuous
places in the City of Miami Beach, one of which was at the door of
the City Hall in said City on the 4th day of January, 1956
and that said Ordinance remained posted for a period of at least
thirty days in accordance with the requirements of the City Charter
of the said City of Miami Beach.
