RESOLUTION NO. 99-23423
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING A TEN DOLLAR ($10.00) FLAT RATE
PARKING FEE FOR MILLENNIUM WEEKEND AT ALL CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
PARKING SYSTEM ATTENDED PARKING LOCATIONS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Parking System has experienced parking
shortages and significant increases in operational needs during special events occurring in the
City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, there are multiple events scheduled on Miami Beach in celebration of the
Millenniwn, and the Administration has determined that increased levels of security citywide are
called for; and
WHEREAS, the Parking System will be attending parking facilities 24 hours per day
beginning Friday, December 31, 1999, at 6:00 A.M. through Saturday, January 1,2000, until
midnight; and
WHEREAS, the additional staffing and security needs place an additional burden on the
budget of the parking system and in an effort to, at a minimwn, break even with regard to
parking revenues and expenses, the Administration has determined that a ten dollar ($10.00) flat
rate is both reasonable and necessary; and
WHEREAS, the proposed ten dollar ($10.00) flat rate parking fee was presented to the
City of Miami Beach Transportation and Parking Committee on Monday, December 5, 1999, and
was passed unanimously with the following change: that the 7th Street Garage maximwn $14.00
rate for 24-hours is left intact; and
WHEREAS, The Committee determined that this was in order to prevent a loss of
regular revenues at the facility, $10.00 vs. $14.00, or $4.00 per vehicle; and
WHEREAS, the proposed flat rate parking fee will allow greater staffing levels, greater
levels of security presence, and a higher level of service to the parking public; and
WHEREAS, the Administration recommends the adoption of the flat rate for the dates of
December 31, 1999, and January I, 2000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a ten dollar ($10.00)
flat rate parking fee is approved and authorized for millennium weekend at all City of Miami
Beach Parking System attended parking locations.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of December, 1999.

ANALYSIS:
The City of Miami Beach Parking System has experienced parking shortages and significant
