RESOLUTION NO. 2001-24698
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA URGING THE
CITY ADMINISTRATION TO EXPEDITIOUSLY RESOLVE
THE MATTER OF POLO PARK WITH MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County Public Schools agreed upon
terms by which Polo Park would be rebuilt by Miami-Dade County Public Schools in exchange for
land permitting the construction of the new Nautilus Middle School; and
WHEREAS, Polo Park serves a key role in meeting the recreational needs of Miami Beach
residents; and
WHEREAS, Polo Park serves as the physical education instruction ground for Nautilus
Middle students; and
WHEREAS, the need for a safe environment is paramount for the City's residents and
Nautilus Middle School students and staff; and
WHEREAS, the ongoing deliberation on this matter has delayed acceptance of Polo Park
by the City of Miami Beach for three years; and
WHEREAS, the cost incurred during this dispute has been too great to bear by both parties;
and
WHEREAS, the community needs to have access and use of Polo Park.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Administration
is hereby urged to expeditiously resolve the matter of Polo Park with Miami-Dade County Public
Schools.
