A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF
CASH DONATIONS; APPLICATION FOR GRANT AWARDS AND
EXECUTION OF RELATED AGREEMENTS; APPROPRIATION OF
FUNDS; AND EXPENDITURES NOT TO EXCEED AMOUNTS RECEIVED
FOR THE FLOWERS OVER MIAMI BEACH PROJECT.
WHEREAS, Flowers Over Miami Beach is a Citywide effort by residents, students,
businesses and homeowners to plant flowers throughout Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the theory of this effort is that flowers are a symbolic deterrent to crime and
blight; and
WHEREAS, the encouragement of our youth to participate in this effort will help to
minimize and reverse unwelcome elements in neighborhoods throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, the budget for the first year of this project is estimated to be $15,000.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that acceptance of cash
donations; application for grant awards and execution of related agreements; appropriation of funds;
and expenditures not to exceed amounts received are hereby authorized for the Flowers Over Miami
Beach Project.

RESOLUTION ACC TING CASH DONATIONS AND GRANT "AWARDS AND AUTHORIZING
APPROPRIATION AND EXPENDITURES FOR FLOWERS OVER MIAMI BEACH PROJECT
FROM:
ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends that the City Commission adopt the attached
resolution authorizing acceptance of donations; application for grant awards and
execution of related agreements; appropriation of funds; and expenditures equal
to the amount of donations and grant awards received, for the Flowers Over Miami
Beach project.
BACKGROUND:
The Flowers Over Miami Beach project is a city-wide effort by residents,
students, businesses and homeowners who care about the beauty of Miami Beach. The
ultimate goal of the project is to plant flowers throughout the City. Everyone
from school children to homeowners associations and businesses will become part
of a joint effort to beautify public buildings, rights of way, businesses, homes
and condominiums.
The theory of this effort is that flowers are a symbolic deterrent to crime and
blight. The encouragement of our youth to participate in this project will help
to minimize and reverse these elements in our city..

The City Commission should accept cash donations and apply for and accept grant
awards for the Flowers Over Miami Beach project and authorize appropriation and
