A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING
AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ISSUE A
CERTIFICATION OF CONSISTENCY WITH THE CITY'S
CONSOLIDATED PLAN TO BARRY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL
OF SOCIAL WORK ACADEMY FOR BETTER
COMMUNITIES TO UTILIZE GRANT FUNDS PROVIDED
DIRECTLY BY THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND
URBAN DEVELOPMENT THROUGH THE HISP ANIC
SERVING INSTITUTIONS ASSISTING COMMUNITIES
GRANT PROGRAM, TO PROVIDE CONSTRUCTION FUNDS
AND FUNDING FOR RECREATIONAL SERVICES FOR
THE NORTH BEACH YOUTH CENTER LOCATED AT 501
72ND STREET, MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, on July 1, 1998, the Mayor and City Commission approved the City's
Consolidated Plan; and
WHEREAS, Barry University School of Social Work Academy for Better Communities has
established a partnership with the City of Miami Beach through the Community Development Block
Grant program to provide recreational services to 140 low and moderate income school children and
their families; and
WHEREAS, Barry University is applying for funding under the Hispanic Serving
Institutions Assisting Communities program through the Super Notice of Funding Availability
("Super NOFA") announced by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
to seek construction funds and funding for recreational services in the amount of $400,000 over a
24 month period for the North Beach Youth Center; and
WHEREAS, HUD requires that applicants for Federal funding under the Super NOFA
obtain and submit a Certification of Consistency with the Consolidated Plan from the entitlement
jurisdiction where the proposed activity is located; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the City's adopted Consolidated Plan, each request for a
Certification of Consistency with the Consolidated Plan requires City Commission review and
approval; and
WHEREAS, the Administration has reviewed the proposed activity and found it to be
consistent with the Consolidated Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the City Manager is
authorized to issue a Certification of Consistency with the City's Consolidated Plan to Barry
University School of Social Work Academy for Better Communities to utilize grant funds provided
directly by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Hispanic Serving
Institutions Assisting Communities Grant Program, to provide construction funds and funding for
recreational services for the North Beach Youth Center located at 501 72nd Street, Miami Beach,
Florida.
