UPDATE ON ALT S DEL MAR LOT SALE BY STATE
Subject:
The State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Bureau of Public Land
Administration, began advertising the sale of the 11 scattered-site lots in Altos Del Mar by
placing an ad in the Miami Herald on three consecutive Sundays, including November 4,
11 and 18 (copy attached). Additional ads have been placed in the L.A. Times Premier
Homes section, the Wall Street Journal Premier Homes section and the London Times real
estate section. In addition, the DEP is sending press releases to South Florida
newspapers and mailing postcards to the approximately 180 persons who previously
expressed a desire to purchase the lots.
The lots will be sold by sealed bid. The anticipated bid submittal deadline is early January
2002.
The lot sale includes 7 oceanfront lots and 4 non-oceanfront lots, located between 7P'
Street and 79th Street to the east of Collins Avenue. Each lot will be sold separately to the
highest bidder, with one exception. There are two non-oceanfront lots, located at 7735
Collins Avenue, which will be sold as one unit because there is an existing house that
spans both lots.
There are a total of 4 existing homes on the state-owned lots, all of which are deemed
contributing structures to the Altos Del Mar Historic District. The bid packages supplied by
DEP will include the City of Miami Beach's special land development regulations and
design guidelines for the Altos Del Mar Historic District. These regulations apply to
renovation of existing structures as well as new construction.
The State has tentatively agreed to give the City of Miami Beach the deed for the
remaining 11 contiguous lots located between 76th Street and 77th Street, contingent upon
receiving at least the amount expended from the Save Our Coast Program ($6,676,188)
to originally acquire all of the 22 lots.
