Subject: CRIME STATISTICS FOR THE YEAR 2002
This Letter to the Commission is to advise of the just released Florida Uniform
Crime Report (UCR) statistics for Part I Crimes for the year 2001. Part I crimes
include Homicide, Forcible Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary,
Larceny and Motor Vehicle Theft.
We are pleased to report that, once again, overall, crime has decreased in the
year 2001. Part I crimes decreased by -9.5%. This follows a decrease of
-13.7% in the prior year.
Some highlights from the UCR report are:
+ The total number of crimes reported decreased -9.5%
+ The total number of violent crimes reported decreased -
6.2%
+ The total number of non-violent crimes reported decreased-
-9.9%
+ The total number of Aggravated Assaults decreased -3.4%
+ The total number of Burglaries reported decreased -3. 7%
+ The total number of Larcenies reported decreased -13.3%
The reduction is reflected by a decrease of 1 ,176 fewer Part I crimes reported in
the year 2001 than reported in the year 2000.
Enclosed is a chart that represents the last six (6) years of crime statistics.
These statistics show that 2001 is a continuation of the downward trend of crime
in the City. In fact, the number of crimes has decreased -33.4% since 1996.
