The 61st Annual Boat Show will be held February 14, 2002 through February 19, 2002. As
part of our effort to ensure ongoing communication with the businesses, residents and
visitors, attached please find the Press Release, the Citizen and Neighborhood notice,
"Miami Beach Briefs", and the notice to all Hoteliers and Guests.
Enhanced staffing plans have been approved for this weekend and "Park and Ride"
shuttles will be provided as described in the attached notices.

Miami International Boat Show Sets Anchor in Miami Beach
- Park & Ride Transportation Available -
Miami Beach - Celebrating its 6lst anniversary, this year's show will feature the latest powerboats,
engines, electronics, and accessories from more than 2,300 exhibitors on more than 2.5 million
square feet of exhibition space. The Miami International Boat and Sailboat Show is the world's
largest consumer marine exhibition. The show will be open from February 14 through 19,2002.
Show hours are Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Friday - Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00
p.m.; and Tuesday from 12 noon to 7:00 p.m. Additionally, the Brokerage Yacht Show is held on
Indian Creek Waterway (February 15 - 19).
The Boat Show's economic impact far surpasses that of other boat shows held in Florida. Miami has
a solid reputation as the marine industry's premier event and a long history of attracting serious
buyers from around the world. Last year's Boat Show had an economic impact on the City's
business community of over $13 million and economic impact to Florida of $685 million. These
increased revenues are very important to the City's continued financial health.
The Boat Show adds increased traffic and parking demands. The City appreciates the public's
patience during this period. The benefits the community receives are great. Residents will be
receiving a coupon inside the City newsletter, Beach Briefs, which is distributed with their utility
bills. Newsletters with the coupon can also be picked up inside Miami Beach City Hall, Police
Station, Parks & Recreation facilities and all three library branches.
Visit the Boat Show and join in the excitement. For the first time, the Show will host a series of
sunset events to attract and entertain evening visitors. For everyone's safety, all containers, coolers,
large bags and backpacks are prohibited. All bags are subject to search.

Due to increased traffic and scarce parking availability, the City of Miami Beach Parking
Department is offering a park and ride program. Flat parking rates will vary between $2 and $10
contingent upon proximity to the event. Pedestrian hotel guests ride for free excluding Electrowave
shuttle use which costs $.25 (see list). The shuttle will include round-trip shuttle service for each
passenger to and from the Convention Center at the following garages/lots:

The City's Community Outreach Re-
source Division works closely with the
City's operational service deparb11ents to c0-
ordinate enhanced delivery of City services
in a manner that is responsive to the spe-
cific needs and requests of neighborhoods
throughout the City. By reaching out to and
interacting with residents, businesses and
other internal City departments, the team's
coordinators provide responsible, timely and
results-oriented customer serivce in their
respective districts. Working together with
the community, the coordinators identify
needs, conceive and implement solutions,
and develop, facilitate and implement n~w
public and/or private enhancement 'pro-
grams. .
The team serves as liaisons to homeowners
and condominium associations and other
dvic groups to identify and resolve specific
and ongoing neighborhood service requests
and service delivery problems.
The Community Resource & Outreach team
facilitates public neighborhood meetings on
an ongoing a regular basis to identify con-
cerns affecting the community's quality of
life. The team has met with residents in
Middle Beach, Northshore/Parkview Island,
Flamingo Park, Normandy Isle South,
Normandy Shores, and Biscayne Point.
Mayor David Dermer will joining the neigh-
.borhood team for its next round of neigh-
borhood meetings.
The Oty is committed to providing informa-
tion on City programs, educating the public
on property owners' responsibilities, as well
as addressing and improving neighborhood
priorities.

City Institutes a Program to Assist Homeless
The Oty of Miami Beach has assigned a high
priority to identifying and ending the cyde of
homelessness. As part of the Oty's ongoing ef-
forts, the Oty recently hired Olga Vasquez as
homeless coordinator. The Oty works through
the Miami-Dade County HomeIessTrustoutreach
team to utilize their Continuum of Care system.
The Continuum of Care systEm is a mc:xjeI based
on the understanding that homeIessness is not
caused merely by a lack of shelter, but involves a
variety of underlying, unmet needs - physical,
economic and sodal.1he5)'StEm isa th~
oomprehensive strategy for the delivery and c0-
ordination of homeless housing and services.

Assistance 01et:ers with a total of 650 beds avail-
able throughout the County. The centers provide
on-site daycare fadlities, full-service health din-

Miami Beach Convention Center, Miami International Boat Show and Yacht &
Brokerage Show
To provide a safe and pleasant visit to the City of Miami Beach, we encourage you to the use the free
continuous shuttle service that is available to all hotel guests and remote parkers. The Boat Show's
Shuttle service will be available for all Boat Show days: Thursday, February 14th through Tuesday,
February 19th.
There are 16 (sixteen) convenient stops along Collins Avenue providing continuous shuttle service
to both the Miami International Boat Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center, and the Yacht &
Brokerage Show along the Indian Creek/Collins Avenue waterway. Please refer to the map on the
reverse side for shuttle stops.
The shuttle will operate one hour prior and one hour after Boat Show hours for that day. The Boat Show

NMMA Boat Show will operate a continuous shuttle among all three (3) show locations, the Miami Beach
Convention Center, Sealine Marina and Yachting Center (Omni Parking Garage) and Miamarina at
Bayside.
The Yacht & Brokerage Show will operate shuttles from Municipal Parking Lots located on Collins
Avenue at 72nd Street, 79th Street, 83rd Street, and 84th Streets, to the Yacht & Brokerage Show on
Collins Avenue, continuing to the NMMA Boat Show at the Convention Center (through Monday,
February 18, 2002).
The newly renovated City of Miami Beach 42nd Street Garage, (see map), will be available for
parking and shuttle service to the Convention Center.
