2002-24772 ResoRESOLUTION NO, 2002-24772 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, PROCLAIMING APRIL 1, 2002 THROUGH APRIL 7, 2002 "NATIONAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK" IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH. WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program has operated since 1974 to provide local governments with the resources required to meet the needs of persons of low and moderate - income and CDBG funds are used throughout the nation to address pressing neighborhood and human service needs; and WHEREAS, the CDBG program has had a significant impact on the City of Miami Beach's local economy through job creation and retention, physical redevelopment and improved local tax bases, with funds used for capital improvements, housing, social services, economic development, commercial revitalization, and residential rehabilitation and preservation programs; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach, through CDBG funding, has developed a strong collaborative network of relationships with its residents and the many nonprofit agencies that provide services and help make possible the City's commitment to its neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach recognizes that the CDBG program is a partnership of federal, local government, nonprofit and community efforts, and that services funded by the federal CDBG program, administered by the City of Miami Beach, and delivered by local sub -recipient organizations, rely heavily on the dedication and good will of our combined efforts; and WHEREAS, the week of April 1, 2002 through April 7, 2002 has been designated as "National Community Development Week"; and WHEREAS, during Community Development Week 2002, the City of Miami Beach will give special thanks and recognition to all participants whose hard work and devotion to the neighborhood and their low and moderate -income residents help insure the quality and effectiveness of the Community Development Block Grant program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission proclaim April 1, 2002 through April 7, 2002, "Community Development Week" In the City o 4iami Beach. Issue: Shall the City of Miami Beach proclaim the week of April 1, 2002 through April 7, 2002 as National Community Development Week in the City of Miami Beach. Item Summary/Recommendation: For the past twenty-eight years, the City has received an annual entitlement allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. Each year, communities across the nation join together to celebrate the achievements made possible with these funds, and to express gratitude to the multiple partners that work together to make the programs a success. Advisory Board Recommendation: None. However, the Community Development Advisory Committee was advised of this year's dates for National Community Development Week at the February 26, 2002 meeting. During Community Development Week 2002, the City of Miami Beach will express its gratitude and give special recognition to all participants whose hard work and dedication to neighborhood revitalization help insure the quality and effectiveness of the Community Development Block Grant program. It is anticipated that expenditures for informational materials, posters, and supplies will total approximately $750 from the CDBG administrative allocation.
