A RESOLUTION OF rHE MAYOR AND THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE DONATION OF ONE (1)
1971 AMERICAN LAFRANCE FIRE ENGINE IN liAS IS"
CONDITION TO ITS SISTER CITY OF ICA, PERU.
,
WHEREAS, the City wishes to donate one (1) 1971 American LaFrance Fire
Engine (vehicle number 5-1 with current mileage of 133,392) with an estimated
value of $2,500 to ITS Sister City of Ica, Peru; and
WHEREAS, this donation is expressly made in an "as is" condition and the
City makes no representations as to the condition of the vehicle, and no warranties,
either expressed or implied, and assumes no further responsibility on behalf of the
City as to said fire engine.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor
and Commission herein authorize the donation of one (1) 1975 American LaFrance
Fire Engine in lias is" condition to the Sister City 0 ca, Peru.

Representatives of the Miami Beach Community Development Corporation and the Sister City of lea, Peru
have requested the donation of a surplus Fire Engine for a new Fire Station in Ica. The vehicle is a surplus
vehicle and has been replaced by the Fire Department. The vehicle is being donated in "as is" condition
and is valued at $2,500 by the Ten-8 Fire Equipment Company.
The Administration recommends adopting this resolution.

Adopt the resolution.
ANALYSIS
The City wishes to donate one (1) 1971 American LaFrance Fire Engine, vehicle 5-1 with
133,392 miles, to the Sister City of Ica, Peru. Mr. Roberto Datorre of the Miami Beach
Community Development Corporation and Mr. Edwin Pineda, Sister City representative of
Ica, have requested that the City donate this surplus Fire Engine for lea's new Fire Station
"Estacion de Bomberos Miami Beach". The vehicle has been valued at $2,500 by the Ten-
S Fire Equipment Company, a vendor of used fire apparatus. Commissioner's Bower and
Garcia have asked that this request be accommodated. The City intends to donate the
aforementioned vehicle in "As Is" condition, makes no representation as to the condition of
the vehicle or warranties whether expressed or implied, and assumes no responsibility. In
addition, the City is not responsible for any shipping or transportation charges.
This vehicle is no longer in service and would otherwise be auctioned by the City. The City
Commission should authorize the donation to the Sister City of Ica, Peru.

Dear Mr. Yuhr;
Our Sister Cities of Ica, Peru respectfully requested on October 29th, 2001 just
after the "Latin America Sister Cities event, if the City could contemplate a gift
donation of a Fire truck. The fire truck will be used at the new Fire Station, in
which it will be called Miami Beach Fire Station#2. In honor of the relationship
with our City I enclosed a letter from there fire department, in which they have
some information on how the gift donation should be made. It also states that
they raised the funds for shipping and repairing the fire truck.
As you know the City of Miami Beach has previously helped the Sister Cities and
presently they are using the ambulance as mini hospitals for the surrounding
towns. They use these vehicles 24 hours a day, not only do they respond to
emergency but they delivered basic needs to the community.

I joyfully bring the regards of lca's authorities and "La Compania de Bomberos de lca" and his personnel,
who has wonderful memories of your person. . .
I would like to share withyou the great news about a new Fire Station that is being under construction in
our hometown lca-Peru, and which was unanimously named by our authorities "Estacion de Bomberos
Miami Beach", in honor to our benefactor sister City, as a gesture of thanks.
Recently 1 visited Miami Beach's Fire Station 2, looking for superfluous equipment, and I was told that
there are two fire trucks that will be out of service soon. This two fire trucks ,are identified labeled "Darley
72 Amer. La France" and "Darlewy 75 Amer. La France".
I would like to request our City to be considered as recipient of a donation of either fire truck, which would
be of a great use in our new Fire Station in lca.
I greatly appreciate your support in this matter.

In a meeting with Mr. Roberto Datorre, President oithe Miami Beach Community Development
Corporation and Mr. Edwin Pineda, Sister City Representative of Lea-Peru, they brought to my
attention that when visiting Fire Station 2 they were informed that two of their fire trucks would soon
be retired. Mr. Pineda showed great interest in obtaining one of these fire trucks for lea-Peru's new
Fire Station "Estacion de Bomberos Miami Beach." I would like to accommodate the request of our
Sister City with the gift of one of the Fire Trucks.
Attached please find a copy of a letter, addressed to Commissioner Garcia., on behalf of our Sister
City Ica-Peru requesting they be considered as a recipient of one of these trucks. Please advise.

In response to your inquiry regarding donation of a retired Fire Engine to our Sister City
Ica, Peru, there is a provision in the City Charter that prohibits donation of capital items,
such as the retired Fire Engine. Assistant City Manager Mayra Diaz-Buttacavoli is
preparing an ordinance that would allow such a donation.
I will advise you when the ordinance is complete.

In a meeting with Mr. Roberto Datorre, President of the Miami Beach Community Development
Corporation and Mr. Edwin Pineda, Sister City Representative of Ica-Peru, they brought to my
attention that when visiting Fire Station 2 they were informed that MO of their fire trucks would soon
be retired. Mr. Pineda showed great interest in obtaining one of these fire trucks for lea-Peru's new
Fire Station "Estacion de Bomberos Miami Beach." I would like to accommodate the request of our
Sister City with the gift of one of the Fire Trucks.
Attached please find a copy of a letter, addressed to Commissioner Garcia, on behalf of our Sister
City lea-Peru requesting they be considered as a recipient of one of these trucks. Please advise.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in contacting my offices.

r joyfully bring the regards of rea's authorities and "La Compania de Bomberos de lea" and his personnel,
who has wonderful memories of your person.
l would like to share with you the great news about a new Fire Station that is being under construction in
our hometown rea-Peru, and which was unanimously named by our authorities "Estacion de Bomberos
Miami Beach", in honor to our benefactor sister City, as a gesrure of thanks.
Recently l visited Miami Beach's Fire Station 2, looking for superfluous equipment, and r was told that
there are two fire trucks that will be out of service soon, This CWo fire trucks are identified labeled "Darley
72 Amer. La France" and "Darlewy 75 Amer. La France",
r would like to request our City to be considered as recipient of a donation of either fire truck, which would
be of a great use in our new Fire Station in lea.
l greatly appreciate your support in this matter.
