AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 789
BEING THE CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES SALARY
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, CHANGING THE TITLES OF POLICE
COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST I AND II TO
COMPLAINT OPERATOR I AND DISPATCHER,
RESPECTIVELY; CREATING THE
CLASSIFICATIONS OF COMPLAINT OPERATOR II
AND COMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR; AND
ABOLISHING THE CLASSIFICATION OF FIRE
COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR; REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT; AND PROVIDING
FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1: That the following lines to Section 1 of Ordinance No. 789, which reads as
follows:

SUBJECT: ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 789 CHANGING THE TITLES
OF POLICE COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST I AND II, CREATING
COMPLAINT OPERATOR II AND COMMUNICATIONS SUPERVISOR, AND
DELETING FIRE COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR
The combining of Police and Fire communications functions has necessitated
the following changes: changing the titles of Police Communications
Specialist I and II to Complaint Operator I and Dispatcher, respectively;
creating the new classification of Complaint Operator II and Communications
Supervisor; and abolishing the classification of Fire Communications
Operator.
These changes were requested by the Police and Fire Chiefs and were
approved by the Personnel Director, Miami Beach Employees Benevolent
Association, Personnel Board, and City Manager. The new titles,
classifications, and job specifications reflect the dual police and fire duties
that these employees will be performing. Creating the new civilian
supervisor position will allow for increased supervisory effectiveness and
continuity of the newly combined, diversified public safety functions.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends adopting the Ordinance specified above.
