Resolution 1498 ��4 4. c."• ^' rr{ " r RESOLUTION NO. 1498 A RESOLUTION REQUESTING SECRETARY OF WAR TO ESTABLISH HARBOR LINES. WHEREAS, that section of Biscayne Bay adjoining the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and laying to the southward of the viaduct, locally known as Miami Beach channel is being rapidly developed as a port for the bmefit of commerce and navigation, and WHEREAS, in the furtherance of that development the War Department has authorized the construction of bulkheads, wharves, and terminal property at the western side of said Miami Beach channel involving dredging and filling, and WHEREAS, the War Department has likewise authorized the dredging of a channel 150 feet wide at bottom, and 20 feet deep along the easterly side of said Miami Beach channel, and said dredging is now nearly completed, and WN1;REAS, in times past, certain bulkheads have been built along the easterly shore line of said Miami Beach channel incidental to the reclamation of the property laying between Alton Road and said Channel, and WHEREAS, said Bulkheads are of a temporary type not adapted to the depth of water required in the said channel for commercial purposes, nor otherwise adapted to the needs of shipping, nor capable of withstanding severe storm action, and WHEREAS, as a consequence of the dredging operations and of tropical storms which have occured during the past season, the said bulkheads have been seriously damaged and are in urgent need of repairs or reconstruction, and WHERAS,the property owners desire to construct bulk- heads in such location and to improve their waterfront property in such manner as will make the same most useful for port purposes, and WHEREAS, it is in the interests of the property owners,` of the City of Miami Beach, and of navigation interest in general that the waterfront be improved in accordance with a definite plan and, in particular, that a line be fixed which shall limit the extent to which wharves, docks and quays may project into said Miami Beach channel, and WHEREAS, the Jar Department is vested with jurisdiction over navigable waters of the United States, including Biscayne Bay, Florida, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,` that the City Council of Miami Beach do request and, it hereby does request, the Secretary of ,'lar to establish harbor lines on the easterly side of Biscayne Bay in that portion locaAy known as Miami Beach channel and extending southwardly from the viaduct to the United States Engineer reservation, situate on the northerly side of the artificial channel connecting Biscayne Bay with the ocean.
