SUBJECT: Miami Beach Police Athletic Lague's Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway
The Miami Beach Police Athletic League's (PAL) annual Thanksgiving Basket Giveaway,
now in its 39th year, will be hosted on Tuesday, November 21st starting at 9:30 AM.
Organizers will meet at Nautilus Middle School, 4301 N. Michigan Avenue, where kick off
festivities will commence in the Auditorium. As in year's past, members of the school
band will set the mood and help get everyone in the giving spirit.
This year, as in many years past, members of the Miami Beach Police Department and
the PAL will be on hand to give out an estimated 550 Thanksgiving Baskets. The baskets
include a 12-14Ib turkey, vegetables, and an assortment of canned goods collected from
local Miami Beach Public Schools.
In preparation for the giveaway, all food items are delivered to Nautilus Middle School
where they are packed into individual grocery bags by student volunteers. The gift bags
are then delivered to Miami Beach Schools, earmarked for families who need a little
extra help. Basket recipients are specifically selected by guidance counselors.
While this is but one of many important outreach events, it is perhaps the most
worthwhile and prominent community project that the Miami Beach PAL sponsors. We
are most proud to serve Miami Beach with the gift of giving.
