The City of Miami Beach is experiencing extreme difficulties in recruitment and retention of qualified Electricians. Of eight budgeted positions, only four are currently filled. Salary comparisons with other governmental agencies revealed that of seven agencies contacted, our salary range is the sixth lowest. The classification of Air Conditioning Mechanic which has always maintained an equivalent salary range with Electrician should also be upgraded to offset similar problems in the future. The salaries of the supervisory classifications involved must be increased to maintain proper pay differentials. The three supervisory classifications will affect four employees.
