RESOLUTION NO. 1715
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF .4IAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
REQUESTING AND URGING ThM STATE HIGH-
WAY DEPARTMENT TO COMMENCE THE CON-
STRUCTION OF CERTAIN ROADS DESCRIBED
HEREIN.
WHEREAS, the Lake Okeechobee region is producing in great
quantities, vegetables and other crops for shipment to northern
markets; and
WHEREAS, the farming regions of Lake Okeechobee have no
direct road leading to a deep water port where vessels equipped
for handling of farm products may enter; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Florida has desig-
nated a road running from Lake Okeechobee southward to Fort Lauder-
dale and Miami under the designation of State Roads 26 and 26-A;
and •
WHEREAS, the City of Miami has expended large sums of money
in providing a deep channel and adequate port facilities for steam-
ships capable and equipped for shipment by water of farm products;
and
WHEREAS, shipment of farm produce by water will effect a tre-
mendous saving to the growers in the Lake Okeechobee region if a
direct road from Lake Okeechobee to Miami is provided;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
1. That this City Council does hereby request and urge the
State Highway Department to commence construction of the above mention,.

to completion.
2. That a copy of this resolution be delivered at once to the
Honorable Fons A. Hathaway and also to the Honorable I. E. Schilling fol
