SUBJECT: FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT (FP&L ASPHALT RESTORATION — CITY HALL PARKING &
ACCESS LOOP — DECEMBER 13 & 14, 201710:OOp.m. — 5:00a.m.
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide information on the full restoration of the Mayor and
Commissioners parking loop at City Hall along 17th Street, and restoration of the west bound travel lane
on 17th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Meridian Court. This restoration is scheduled to take
place on Wednesday and Thursday night (December 13th & 14th, 2017) between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
In order to provide power to the new Miami Beach Convention Center, FP&L had to upgrade its existing
underground utility duct bank along 17th Street. During the design phase, it was discovered that several
old ducts had collapsed and could not be utilized in feeding power to the Convention Center. Additionally,
the crowded subsurface conditions along 17th Street prohibited the installation of a new duct bank. In light
of this, an easement was granted to FP&L to install a new utility duct bank that runs through the existing
parking and access loop at City Hall.
FP&L's utility contractor, Danella Construction, has completed the utility duct bank installation and will
commence full milling and resurfacing of the access and parking loop along with the westbound travel
lane of 17th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Meridian Court.
In an attempt to minimize traffic impacts in and around City Hall during this restoration, Danella
Construction will mobilize on Wednesday evening, December 13th 2017 at 10:00 p.m. Approved
nighttime work hours are between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.
