AN ORDINANCE OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING
MIAMI BEACH CITY CODE CHAPTER 2 , SECTION 2-6,
ENTITLED "ENUMERATION OF ORGANIZATIONAL UNITS"
BY SUBSTITUTING THE NAME "BUILDING DEPARTMENT"
FOR "BUILDING SERVICES DEPARTMENT" ; REPEALING
ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING
FOR SEVERABILITY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA:
SECTION 1.
Section 2-6 of Miami Beach City Code Chapter 2 , entitled
"Administration" is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 2-6. Enumeration of organizational units.
The administrative or organizational units of the
City which are hereby created shall be as follows:

All Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict herewith be
and are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3 . SEVERABILITY
If any section, subsection, clause or provision of this
Ordinance is held to be invalid, the remainder shall be not
affected by such invalidity.
SECTION 4 . EFFECTIVE DATE
This Ordinance shall take effect on January 15, 1994

"BUILDING SERVICES DEPARTMENT"; REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; PROVIDING FOR AN

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends that the City Commission adopt on Second Reading, the
attached Ordinance amending Miami Beach City Code Chapter 2, Section 2-6, entitled
"Enumeration of Organizational Units" by substituting the name "Building Department" for
"Building Services Department".
BACKGROUND:
The First Reading was held on December 15, 1993. On October 1, 1992, the Building
Department entitlement was changed to "Building Services Department". Since that
entitlement change, the Director of the Department, and his staff have noted that the public,
on numerous occasions, have been confused as to the exact "services" offered in their
Department. Some members of the public think they are contacting a property maintenance
or janitorial maintenance department.
ANALYSIS:
In order to better serve the public, the "Building Services Department" entitlement should
be changed to "Building Department".
CONCLUSION:
The Administration requests that the City Commission adopt on Second Reading, the
attached Ordinance.
