Resolution 2508 oi RESOLUTION NO. 2508 To the Chairman Rivers & Harbors Committee WHEREAS, the normal development , commercial and industrial of Miami, the natural gateway to South and Central Americas by land, air and water, served by the Port of Miami, is seriously hampered because of insuf- ficient depth of water in the entrance channel and in the harbor proper, thereby preventing vessels making Miami a regular port of call; and WHEREAS, the trade and commerce to be secured by improving the harbor entrance and channel to a suffi- cient depth to enable these vessels of deep draft to include the Port of Miami in their regular schedule will be of inestimable value to the economic develop- ment of this area; and WHEREAS, we are encouraged because of the rapid growth of international contact following the great development of aviation in this area to believe that the Bay of Biscayne must become an important factor in the scheme of national defense, NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUN- CIL OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, That we do hereby respect- fully petition the members of the Rivers and Harbors Committee to accord to this area the fullest measure of support and assistance in their efforts to remove the existing disability to the end, that the Port of Miami be made available to all vessels seeking to enter.
