(Alliance of the Southern Triangle), in partnership with BFI (Bas Fisher Invitational). This Research Intensive gathers artists, writers, scientists, and experts in the fields of infrastructure, climate modeling, speculative fiction, policy making, and cultural agency in order to imagine the future of the region and coastal cities beyond mere adaptation. A.S.T. makes a call for an interdisciplinary rethinking of city structures amidst the face of the globalized hyper -economy impacted by climate change. How can a repurposing of current state -infrastructures such as zoning, speculative real estate, and water management be used to project into the future in order to create an alternative vision of our present. The primary focus of this event is to use the purported freedom of art to generate a platform in which thinking can be turned towards a systemic reorganization/orientation of coastal cities generally, and Miami, in particular. This is the beginning of what we hope to be an extended body of research. The aim of the day, given the challenges of global climate change, is to synthesize the range of expertise present to: —Imaginatively speculate on what a city can be. —Recalibrate the systems in which we are operating, with a view to understand Miami in 5-100-200 years. —Create a scaffolding on which to model urban futures more broadly. —Define principles for what a city ought to be given both our capacities and limitations. —Develop stress tests: ways of testing ideas, to find weakest points or stability of a system or idea. We invite you to look through the attached bios and introductions to your fellow panelists in preparation for the day. We are very much looking forward to the event. EVENT STRUCTURE Workshop Portion 2:30 — 5:45 Public Portion 6:00 — 8:00 Refreshments will be available for participants throughout the day and we will invite both participants and audience to stay for a drink after the event.
