Morales, City Manager DATE: January 31, 2018 SUBJECT: 100 Resilient Cities Discovery Alrea Teams Event COMMISSION I am pleased announce that on Friday, February 2nd, we are kicking off the next step of the Greater Miami and the Beaches (GM&B) Resilience Strategy development process. GM&B is a unique collaboration among Miami -Dade County, the City of Miami, and the City of Miami Beach. Being part of the 100 Resilient Cities network, pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, offers expertise and funding for resilience to its member cities through creating an implementable Resilience Strategy with available resources for actions defined in the strategy. Discovery The Phase 2 Kickoff Event is an important milestone in the development of the Greater Miami and the Beaches Resilience Strategy. More than two -hundred representatives from businesses, non -profits, and government will participate in six Discovery Area Work Groups. Following the kickoff, over the next six months, the teams will meet several times, and will: • Contribute time and expertise • Conduct analysis on the Discovery Areas, and • Create Action Proposals for the Resilience Strategy. The Discovery Area Teams kick-off will be held at the Hyatt Regency, 400 SE 2nd Ave, Miami, FL 33131. The teams will work in two -sessions. The morning session will held from 9:15am to 12:30pm, and the afternoon session will be held from 1:30pm to 4:45pm. Fall 2016 Summer 2017 Winter 2019 C Institutionalize and Implement For us to achieve the meaningful results of this planning process, it has been my priority to engage the City Commission, Committees, the community, and staff since we were selected in 2016. We have more than twenty staff participating in Phase 2, and many Miami Beach community representatives. I look forward to more learning and new opportunities that this process continues to create for the City of Miami Beach.
