A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, APPOINTING MAYOR DAN GELBER TO
PARTICIPATE AS A VOTING MEMBER OF THE MIAMI -
DADE TRANSPORTATION PLANNING ORGANIZATION
AND TO REPRESENT THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AND
SERVE IN THIS APPOINTED CAPACITY.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 339.176, Florida Statutes, the voting
membership of any Miami -Dade Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) must
include an additional voting member appointed by the City's governing body for each
city with a population of 50,000 or more residents; and
WHEREAS, the TPO rules require a Resolution of the governing body of any
municipality that wishes to appoint an elected official to the Miami -Dade County's
Transportation Planning Organization Governing Board; and
WHEREAS, it is the intent of the Florida Legislature to encourage and
promote the safe and efficient management, operation, and development of surface
transportation systems that will serve the mobility needs of people and freight within
the State while minimizing transportation related fuel consumption, air pollution, and
greenhouse omissions through metropolitan planning organizations throughout the
State; and
WHEREAS, the TPO has been created to accomplish these objectives; and
WHEREAS, previously Mayor Philip Levine served as the City of Miami Beach's
representative to the TPO; and
WHEREAS, as Mayor Levine is no longer on the City Commission, a new
member is required to be appointed to the TPO; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Dan Gelber is interested in transportation issues and would
admirably represent the City on the TPO.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that:
Section 1: The foregoing facts and recitations contained in the preamble to
this Resolution are incorporated and adopted by reference as if fully set forth
herein.
Section 2:, The Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, hereby appoint Mayor Dan Gelber to participate as a voting member of
the Miami -Dade County Transportation Planning Organization to represent the
City of Miami Beach and to serve in this appointed capacity.

Pursuant to Section 339. 176 of the Florida Statutes, cities with a population of
50,000 or more residents must include a voting member on the area's [Miami
Dade County] Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), which member is
appointed by that City's governing body. Section 339. 175(4)(b), of the Florida
Statutes, also provides that the membership of an MPO member who is a public
official automatically terminates upon the member leaving his or her elective or
appointive office. Due to the vacancy created for the City' s representative on the
Miami -Dade County Transportation Organization by the City's November 7, 2017
General Election, the attached Resolution appointing Mayor Dan Gelber as the
City's representative on the Miami -Dade County Transportation Organization is
submitted for consideration by the City Commission.
