A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DIRECTING AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO ENTER INTO
PRELIMINARY NEGOTIATIONS WITH MIAMI DADE COLLEGE,
RELATING TO A FUTURE SATELLITE MIAMI DADE COLLEGE
CAMPUS AT THE SITE OF THE BYRON CARLYLE THEATER,
OR AT SUCH OTHER SITE IN NORTH BEACH TO WHICH THE
PARTIES MAY OTHERWISE AGREE.
WHEREAS, over the past several years, the City of Miami Beach (the "City ") has
dedicated significant resources toward the revitalization of the North Beach area; and
WHEREAS, on October 26, 2017, and following a presentation by Miami Dade College,
the Mayor's North Beach Committee unanimously adopted a motion to support and encourage
Miami Dade College and the City of Miami Beach to work towards bringing a satellite campus to
North Beach; and
WHEREAS, Miami Dade College has the largest undergraduate enrollment of any
college or university in the country, eight campuses, and over 300 academic programs; and
WHEREAS, the development of a Miami Dade College campus in North Beach would be
an asset to the North Beach neighborhood and the City at large, and would contribute
immensely to the economic vitality, cultural offerings, and educational opportunities for Miami
Beach and Miami -Dade County residents, as well as Miami Beach visitors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby
direct and authorize the City Administration to enter into preliminary negotiations with Miami
Dade College, relating to a future satellite Miami Dade College campus at the site of the Byron
Carlyle Theater, or at such other site in North Beach to which the parties may otherwise agree.
