A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, WAIVING SPECIAL
EVENT FEES, IN THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF $11,984.00, FOR
THE GROUNDUP MUSIC FESTIVAL TO BE HELD FEBRUARY
9 -11, 2018, AT THE NORTH BEACH BANDSHELL AND THE
ADJACENT PALM GROVE PARK.
WHEREAS, The Rhythm Foundation, Inc., the applicant for the GroundUP Music
Festival, is a Florida not - for - profit corporation that is celebrating its 30th Season in presenting
quality community -based programs, concerts, events, and festivals that feature established and
innovative artists from South Florida and around the world; and
WHEREAS, from February 9 -11, 2018, The Rhythm Foundation, Inc. will present the
second annual GroundUP Music Festival, featuring such artists as Snarky Puppy, The Wood
Brothers, The Flecktones Trio featuring Bela Fleck, and many others; and
WHEREAS, the GroundUP Music Festival will be held at the North Beach Bandshell and
the adjacent Palm Grove Park; and
WHEREAS, in excess of 700 hotel room nights are expected from attendees of the
GroundUP Music Festival, with more than fifty percent of the audience coming from outside of
the State of Florida, including sixteen percent coming from outside the country;
WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends, and the Mayor and City Commission
approve, the waiver of special event fees, in the total amount of $11,984.00, for the GroundUP
Music Festival, which represents $8,812.50 in square footage fees, $2,671.50 in Police
administrative fees, the application fee of $250.00, and the permit fee of $250.00.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby waive special event fees, in the total amount of $11,984.00, for the 2018
GroundUP Music Festival as more specifically set forth herein.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 17th day of January, 2018.
