Morales, City Manager DATE: February 13, 2018 SUBJECT: Hispanic Affairs Committee The Purpose of this Letter to the Commission (LTC) is to inform the Commission of several Motions passed by the Hispanic Affairs Committee at their February 12, 2018 meeting. Members Present: Cecilia "Ceci" Velasco, Alex Fernandez, Gabriel Paez, Francis Trullenque Members Absent: Miguel Brizuela, Angela Diaz MOTION: Urging the City Administration to provide (in English and Spanish) a copy of the City of Miami Beach campaign finance laws and employee gift policy: With every application issued by a regulatory department of the City of Miami Beach, including but not limited to the Planning Department and Building Department; To currents vendors of the City of Miami Beach; To any entity or individual applying to be a vendor of the City of Miami Beach; and, To any entity or individual applying to lobby in the City of Miami Beach. The City Administration is further urged to obtain a signed receipt from those receiving the campaign finance laws and employee gift policy shall provide a signed receipt for the City's records. Motion Made by: Alex Fernandez Motion Seconded by: Francis Trullenque Motion Adopted 4-0 by voice Absent: Miguel Brizuela and Angela Diaz MOTION: The Hispanic Affairs Committee affirmed and recognized that, according to US Census data, the extreme level of poverty amongst seniors in the City of Miami Beach is an emergency that must be addressed as an urgent funding priority. 1. The Hispanic Affairs Committee supports the intent of item R7L and strongly urges the Mayor and Commission to: a. Fully fund a meals program at the UNIDAD of Miami Beach, Inc. for 100 elderly persons per day, at a total funding amount of $191,000, and b. Require UNIDAD to submit to the Mayor and City Commission, for its ratification, an annual budget for the public funds earmarked for senior meals. 2. This Hispanic Affairs Committee supports item R7M and urges the Mayor and City Commission to require UNIDAD of Miami Beach to report back to the City Commission in one (1) year as to how the senior community has been better served by UNIDAD as a result of being relieved from the inside maintenance responsibilities by the City.
