A RESOLUTION CALLING A GENERAL ELECTION TO
BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 6, 1973, FOR THE
ELECTION OF A MAYOR AND THREE COUNCILMEN
TO THE CITY COUNCIL.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1. That in accordance with the provisions of Chapter
7672 , Laws of Florida, Acts of 1917, being the
Charter of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, as amended under the
provisions of Article V of the Dade County Home Rule Charter,
a general election is hereby called and directed to be held in
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, from 7 : 00 o 'clock a.m. until
7 : 00 o' clock p.m. on November 6 , 1973, for the election of a
Mayor, and three Councilmen to the City Council, one Councilman
from District I , II and III , respectively, each of whom shall hold
office for the terms as provided by law.
SECTION 2. That the appropriate and proper Dade County election
official shall conduct the said General Election
hereby called, except for the final tabulation and certification
of the results of said General Election. The official return
sheets from each precinct and district shall be furnished to the
City Clerk of the City of Miami Beach as soon as the polls are
closed after said General Election. The official canvassing of
the results of said General Election shall be made by the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach.
SECTION 3 . That the said voting precincts in the City for said
General Election shall be as established by lihe proper
and appropriate Dade County election officials. All electors shall
vote at the polling places in the voting precincts and districts
in which official Dade County registration books show that the
said electors reside. Registration of persons desiring to vote in
said General Election shall be in accordance with the general law
of the State governing voter registration.
SECTION 4. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to publish
once each week for a period of four (4) consecutive
weeks next preceding said General Election in a newspaper of
general circulation published in the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
a notice of said General Election in substantially the following
form, to wit:
"NOTICE OF ELECTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that by resolution
duly passed and adopted by the City Council
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, a
General Election has been called and will be
held in the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
from 7: 00 o 'clock a.m. until 7 : 00 o ' clock
p.m. on November 6, 1973, at the polling
places in the election precincts as follows,

at which election the qualified electors participating therein
will elect the Mayor and fill three Councilmen seats to the
City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, one Councilman
being elected from each of three districts numbered I, II, and III ,
respectively, by the electors of the particular district, said
districts and the boundaries thereof, are shown and delineated
by the District Map on file in the office of the City Clerk.
"Only persons properly registered will be qualified to vote in
said election.
"All electors shall vote at the polling places in the voting
districts and precincts in which the Dade County Registration
Books show that said electors reside.
"The Dade County Supervisor of Elections shall open the ResiStra-
tion Books of said City for the purpose of registering any person
qualified to vote in said election, at the South Shore Community
Center, 833 - 6th Street, Miami Beach, Florida, beginning
September 24th through October 6th, 1973 , Monday through Friday,
10 : 00 a.m. until 6 : 00 p.m. , and Dade County Supervisor of Elections
Office, 1351 N. W. 12th Street, Miami , Florida, from 8 : 00 a.m.
until 9 : 00 p.m. , Mondays through Fridays , and from 8 : 30 a.m. until
5 : 00 p.m. on Saturdays, up to and including October 6, 1973. "

SECTION 5. That the voting shall be on voting machines and that
the official ballots thereof shall be in substantially
the following form:
"OFFICIAL BALLOT

CITY OF MIAMI BEACH
November 6 , 1973

The ballot shall be so prepared that the names of qualified
candidates for the office to be filled shall appear on said
ballot in alphabetical order according to surname, and that the
said ballot and its preparation shall be such so as to be in
compliance with the laws of the State of Florida with respect
to the use of mechanical voting machines .
SECTION 6. That absentee voters participating in said General
Election shall be entitled to cast their ballots in
accordance with the provision of the laws of the State of Florida
with respect to absentOe voting.
SECTION 7. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes
cast in said General Election shall be deemed to be
elected. In case two or more persons receiving an equal and
highest number of votes , such persons shall draw lots to determine
who shall be deemed the successful candidate.
SECTION 8 . That the City of Miami Beach shall pay all expenses
for conducting this General Election and will pay the
same directly to all persons or firms , upon receipt of invoice or
statement approved by the Supervisor of Elections of Dade County,
Florida.

SECTION 9 . That this Resolution shall be effective immediately
upon its passage .
