Morales, City Manager DATE: February 23, 2018 SUBJECT: DISPLAY OF HIGH -FLOOR TROLLEY AND LOW -FLOOR TROLLEY WITH IMPROVED INTERIOR ACCESSIBILITY AND COMFORT The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to inform the Mayor and the Commission that a low -floor and high -floor trolley will be displayed at Rebecca Towers (Alton Road/2 Street) on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 from 2 PM to 3 PM for a side-by-side comparison. The low -floor trolley on display will include the following recently implemented modifications intended to improve passenger comfort and convenience (see Attachment). • New footrest for high bench above front right wheel well • Storage rack above left front wheel well • Rear support railing • Longer leather straps • Raised benches above the rear wheel wells to allow for more passenger legroom At its February 21, 2018 meeting the Neighborhood/Community Affairs Committee (NCAC) recommended that the Administration display the improved low -floor trolley at Rebecca Towers for community feedback prior to implementing similar modifications to all 12 low -floor trolley vehicles in the City's fleet. Hometown Trolley has committed to performing the above described modifications at an estimated cost of aooroximately $400 per vehicle (total cost of $4,800 for all 12 low -floor trolley vehicles). The funding required for implementation is currently available from trolley operating savings. The anticipated timeline for implementation of the above modifications to all 12 low -floor trolley vehicles is approximately four (4) weeks. In addition, the City will install wider bottom and back seat cushions for various benches in all low - floor trolleys. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
