After considering your matter from all angles, I have
corn to the conclusion that the easiest and best mode to proceed will be
through the French Courts. This would require a visit to Paris on the
part of Mrs. F., taking altogether perhaps five to six weeks. It would
not be necessary for you to go.
I am of the opinion that French divorce is a bsoluwely
legal in this country. Over there the grounds can be anything; that is,
the French Courts will grant decrees upon the general proposition that two
people do not want to live together any more. All you would have to do
would be to write a letter, which would be prepared for you, in which you
would state that in your judgment it is impossible for you to remain as
man and wife with any degree of happiness and content, or words to that
effect.
I have talked in a general way to Dudley Field Malone of
New York City, who makes a specialty of French divorces and has been very
successful. He says there is no doubt whatever about the outcome. It
will require a trip to Paris on his own account and he has fees to pay
lawyers there. The fee would be about X15,000.00, which is what he
ordinarily charges for services of this character, I think. He doesn't
do any business of this kind except for people of means, and I suppose
that he has to charge big fees, because there are not so many people, after
all, taking advantave of this mode of procedure.

Malone and permit me to explain who the parties are and all about the:
case. It could be arranged without publicity, and except as to the
expense I regard it as the best method for you.

Dear harry:
1 am enclosing herewith a copy of a
letter received from one of my partners in Miami Beach.
We have had an enormous amount of trouble
for .several years with our beach property on account of
leaking oil, barges and -carelessness in their operations.
The greatestasset that southern Florida
has is her bathing beaches'and on some days it isprac-
ticallyimpossible tousethese beaches .without getting -
your 'clothing, your hair end your flesh covered with
spots of sticky oil which can `only be removed with benzine
or turpentine.
