RESOLUTION NO. 73-14212
A RESOLUTION CALLING A PUBLIC HEARING FOR
THE PURPOSE OF CONSIDERATION AND
ADOPTION OF A BUILDING MORATORIUM FOR
CONVERSION OF HOTEL ROOMS .
WHEREAS , the City of Miami Beach is making a vast
capital expenditure to the expansion of its Convention Hall
facilities , in order to become the leading Convention City in
the United States of America , and
WHEREAS , in order to achieve said objective, it is
of paramount and vital importance that there be an adequate
supply of hotel accommodations for persons brought to the City
of Miami Beach and the State of Florida for such conventions ,
and
WHEREAS , it is of transcendent importance for the
preservation of the City of Miami Beach as being a leading and
outstanding resort city that there be an adequate and proper
number of hotel accommodations to house tourists and visitors
to this City, and
WHEREAS , the City Council has observed an alarming
trend for the transformation and conversion of many hotels to
condominiums , cooperatives , and apartment houses , and
WHEREAS , such movement, if unchecked, will be disastrous
to the economy not only of the City of Miami Beach, but also to
the entire State of Florida,
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that a public hearing be
and the same is hereby called to be held on the 16th day of
January , 1973, beginning at the hour of 2 : 00 o ' clock p.m. , in
the Council Chambers in the Cypress Room of the Miami Beach
Convention Hall , Miami Beach, Florida, for the purpose of
consideration and adoption by the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach of a building moratorium imposing a prohibition upon
the issuance of any building permits for the transformation or
conversion of any existing hotel facilities into condominiums ,
cooperatives , and apartment houses ; such moratorium to be imposed
for such period of time as shall be necessary to accomplish the
purposes hereinabove set forth.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 12th day of December, 1973.
