A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE RECOMMENDATION OF THE
NEIGHBORHOOD /COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE REGARDING THE
DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF TWO (2) NEIGHBORHOOD
IDENTIFICATION___ SIGNS____ REQUESTED BY THE _SOUTH OF FIFTH
NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION; AND AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATION
TO DEVELOP THE DESIGN FOR THE PROPOSED SIGNAGE, WITH THE FINAL
DESIGN SUBJECT TO REVIEW AND APPROVAL BY THE
NEIGHBORHOOD /COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMITTEE.
WHEREAS, the South of Fifth Neighborhood Association (SOFNA) requested that the
Office of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) develop neighborhood identification signage that is
harmonious with existing architecture and the identity and characteristics of the neighborhood;
and
WHEREAS, there are two proposed locations for the neighborhood signs, one at 5th
Street and Alton Road, and the other at 5th Street and Washington Avenue; and
WHEREAS, at the January 24, 2018 Neighborhood /Community Affairs Committee (the
"Committee ") meeting, the Committee favorably recommended that CIP work with an
architect /engineer to develop, along with input from the South of Fifth Neighborhood Association,
a design for the two neighborhood identification signs; and
WHEREAS, the signs shall be placed within the limits of the City right -of -way near the
intersections of 5th Street and Alton Road, and 5th Street and Washington Avenue ; and
WHEREAS, the Committee requested that the conceptual design, once developed, be
presented for their consideration; and
WHEREAS, funding for the signage project is available through previously appropriated
funds in an existing South Pointe Miscellaneous Improvement project budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Mayor and City Commission
hereby accept the recommendation of the Neighborhood /Community Affairs Committee regarding
the design and construction of two (2) neighborhood identification signs requested by the South
of Fifth Neighborhood Association; and authorize the Administration to develop the design for the
proposed signage, with the final design subject to review and approval by the
Neighborhood /Community Affairs Committee.

RECOMMENDATION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission approve the resolution.
ANALYSIS
The South of Fifth Neighborhood Association (SOFNA) has identified the desire for installation of
neighborhood identification signs. The proposed locations for the signs are 5th Street and Alton
Road and 5th Street and Washington Avenue.
SOFNA requested that the Office of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) assist them to develop
signage that would reflect the needs of the neighborhood, which include existing architecture and the
identity and characteristics of the area.
At the January 24, 2018 NCAC meeting, the committee favorably recommended to the City
Commission that CIP work with an Architect/Engineer consultant to develop, along with input from the
South of Fifth Neighborhood Association, a design for two neighborhood identification signs. The
signs shall be placed within the limits of the City Right -Of -Way (ROW) near the intersections of 5th
Street and Alton Road, and 5th Street and Washington Avenue.
The NCAC requested that the conceptual design, once developed, be presented for their
consideration.
Funding is available through previously appropriated funds in an existing South Pointe Miscellaneous
Improvement project budget.
CONCLUSION
The Administration recommends that the City Commission approve the resolution.
