LTC 118-2018 2018 International Tennis Federation UpdateMIAMIBEACH OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER NO. LTC # 118-2018 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of tC e City Co (mission FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager DATE: February 28, 2018 SUBJECT: 2018 International Tennis Federati::+n Update The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to update the Mayor and Commission on the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Young Seniors Championships to be held in the City of Miami Beach. On December 13, 2017, the City Commission approved funding in the amount of $100,000 to support this internationally acclaimed tennis tournament which draws players from around the world, and is hosted in the North Shore Tennis Center and Flamingo Park Tennis Center. The initial dates planned for the Young Seniors events were April 27 — May 4, 2018 for the team championships, and May 5 —12, 2018 for the individual championships. At the request of the ITF, and working in tandem with City staff to coordinate, the dates have been moved forward to October 19 — 26, 2018 for team championships and October 27 — November 3, 2018 for individual championships. These new dates will allow the ITF further time to promote, market, and ensure excellent attendance for the tournaments, as well as to plan and execute a series of ancillary events throughout the City during the event dates. In addition, these new dates are beneficial to the City, as the RevPAR (revenue per available room) is significantly lower, year over year, during the October/November dates versus the April/May dates. In essence, this date change is favorable in regards to room night and resort tax generation. The sponsorship agreement does not require an amendment in order to make this date change, and is expected to be executed shortly. Please contact me should you have any questions.
