Resolution 74-14370 RESOLUTION NO. 74-14370 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING CITY OF HIALEAH RESOLUTION NO. 3368 REQUESTING THAT AMTRAK INITIATE RAIL PASSENGER SERVICE ALONG THE FLORIDA EAST COAST. WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, is in receipt of Resolution No . 3368 of the City of Hialeah, Florida, said Resolution requesting that Amtrak initiate rail passenger service along the Florida East Coast; and WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Miami Beach is in agreement with the sentiments and bona fide desires to implement this program as expressed in said Resolution; and WHEREAS , said Resolution No. 3368 of the City of Hialeah is attached hereto and made a part hereof; and WHEREAS , the City Manager of the City of Miami Beach has recommended to the City Council that said Resolution of the City of Hialeah be adopted in spirit; and WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Miami Beach deems it to be in the best interest of the City and its residents to adopt said Resolution of the City of Hialeah; NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH , FLORIDA, that said Resolution No. 3368 of the City of Hialeah, Florida, requesting that Amtrak initiate rail passenger service along the Florida East Coast be and the same is hereby adopted by the City of Miami Beach, Florida, in its entirety; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that this Resolution be forwarded to Amtrak, Washington, D.C. , the Governor of the State of Florida, the United States Senators and Representatives from the Congres- sional Districts within Dade County, the counties , cities , and towns along Florida East Coast and to the Florida East Coast Railway Company. PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of May, 1974 . WHEREAS, the United States is presently going through a time when traditional sources of energy are greatly limited for transportation that relies on the oil industries; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida is faced with the possibility of a slow- down in economic prosperity due to limited modes of travel; a result of the energy crisis along the East Coast which borders the Atlantic Ocean; and WHEREAS, both the residents of the Florida East Coast and Amtrak, could benefit by establishing routes along Florida's East Coast with the Florida East Coast Railway Company, who presently has usable tracks and stations, so that passenger service could be furnished to those who wish to visit Florida, and so that East Coast residents would have an energy saving and economical means of transportation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF HIALEAH, FLORIDA: 1.. That the City of Hialeah supports the creation of rail passenger services by Amtrak along the Florida East Coast. 2. That the City of Hialeah requests that Amtrak conduct a study to determine the desirability and identify the need for rail passenger services along the Florida East Coast. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be forwarded to Am- trak, Washington, D. C. , the Governor of the State of Florida, the United States Senators and Representatives from the Congressional Districts within Dade County, the counties, cities, and towns along Florida East Coast and to the Florida East Coast Railway Company.
