GRANTS MANAGEMENT OFFICE UPDATE

The Grants Management Office was created this fiscal year with the mission of maximizing
City funds by actively seeking funding opportunities for which the City is eligible and
applying for these funds. ,As such, staff has been applying for funds to finance projects
throughout the City.
As part of the process of setting up the new office, Grants Management has also been
tasked with creating and maintaining a grants database to include information on available
sources of future funding, as well as capturing information on prior grants that the City has
obtained. Additionally, the database can track the amount of funding that the City has
applied for and been awarded.
The attached report has been prepared to provide you with information on the funds that
the City has applied for and been awarded in the last two fiscal years.
Fiscal 2001/02
This fiscal year, through July 31, 2002, the City applied for funds in the amount of
$17,446,357 and has received funding in the amount of $4,703,548 with an additional
$5,271,745 pending award (see Exhibit A). This totals 62 grants that the City has applied
for this year, of which 15 grants are new contacts with funding agencies.
Fiscal 2000/01
Last fiscal year, prior to the creation of the Grants Management Office, the City applied for
funding in the amount of $6,018,596 (see Exhibit B) and received funds in the amount of
$2,582,309. This totals 20 grants that the City applied for in fiscal year 2000/01.
In conclusion, despite the economic conditions that resulted after September 11,2001 and
the ensuing reductions in funding by many agencies, the number and amount of grants that
the City has applied for and been awarded has significantly increased this fiscal year as a
direct result of the creation of the Grants Management Office. Please contact me or Mayra
